Visiting Pompeii means more than a simple tour to see some remains. On the morning of 24 August 79 AD the eruption of Vesuvius sneaked up on the 11,000 inhabitants of Pompeii. The catastrophe killed the population and buried the city under a blanket of ash. This allowed preserving Pompeii up to our days.
